The foundation of the IBES bundles the strengths of FHWien der WKW in the research areas of business ethics, strategy and sustainability management. The institute is the result of the merger of the internationally renowned Center for Business Ethics & Corporate Governance with the Center for Strategy & Competitiveness. With the establishment of this institute, the university is creating one of the largest scientific organisations at the interface of business ethics and strategic sustainability management in Austria, thereby further expanding its leading role.

The main task of the Institute for Business Ethics and Sustainable Strategy is to address pressing issues of ecologically, economically and socially sustainable corporate management and to process and disseminate these in an application-oriented manner in research and teaching as well as in the context of knowledge transfer. The employees of the Institute publish their research results at the highest international level. In addition, they are available to companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations as experts and for specific commissioned projects and studies.
