New dual leadership at the Institute for Business Ethics and Sustainable Strategy (IBES) at FHWien of WKW.

Dr Nils Kruse and Prof. Dr Daniela Ortiz will take over the leadership of the research institute in October 2022. They will succeed Prof. Dr Markus Scholz in this function. Under the new management duo, the institute will continue to focus on sustainable and responsible corporate management and expand its cooperation with domestic companies and other research institutions.

The new academic year at FHWien of WKW begins with a renewal at IBES: Prof. Dr Daniela Ortiz, a long-time researcher and third-party project team leader at the University of Applied Sciences for Management & Communication and IBES, takes over the management of the institute together with Dr Nils Kruse. Daniela Ortiz, a doctor of Business ethics, who has roots in Costa Rica, studied business administration and philosophy at the University of Innsbruck and the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce (Rome, Italy). Her research interests include strategic sustainability management, sustainability-oriented innovation, responsible corporate management, and business ethics. She also leads the competence team “Change for Corporate Sustainability”, funded by the City of Vienna.

Dr Nils Kruse, a doctor of business administration and business ethicist with many years of experience abroad in Asia and knowledge of management consulting, completes the new leadership of the Institute. Born in Germany, he studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Konstanz (Germany), Beijing Language and Culture University (Beijing), Korea University (Seoul) and American University (Washington, D.C.) and received his doctorate from Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). His research focuses on corporate responsibility and business ethics, including corporate political responsibility and responsible lobbying. In his new role, he is in particular contact person for business cooperation.

Research at IBES focuses on the three established areas of business ethics, corporate governance, and sustainability management. In many cases, research projects are conducted with colleagues at renowned national and international research institutions and published in scientific journals. In addition, the researchers pass on scientific findings to practitioners or develop them together with practitioners within the framework of projects.

The previous head and founder of IBES, Prof. Dr Markus Scholz, follows the call to the Technical University of Dresden (one of the eleven German universities of excellence) and takes over the professorship of business administration, in particular responsible management, from October 2022. The new institute leadership and the Head of Research of the university of Applied Sciences for Management & Communication, Prof. Dr Walter Mayrhofer, expressed their gratitude for the excellent work Prof. Dr Markus Scholz has done in the previous years.
